My ceramics practice is rooted in a fascination with geometry. After losing my daughter Annabelle at 22 weeks into my pregnancy in 2015, I found solace in geometric pattern and form. My work combines hand-built stoneware forms with a variety of surface decorations, where pattern, color, and firing atmosphere open endless possibility. Drawing from sacred geometry, mathematics, and nature, I create with the hope of awakening curiosity and awe in the patterns that envelop our lives.
The pandemic put a pause on my artistic pursuits. With a 2 year old to take care of and no markets to sell at, I pivoted to being full time mom and using all my spare energy and time to build an addition to my home. Starting in the fall of 2021, we began construction on the addition, which includes a 420 square foot studio space for my ceramics.
At the heart of my work is geometry. I predominately slab build complex geometric shapes for both functional and decorative uses. The surface design of my forms is ever evolving and I utilize a variety of techniques such as: screen printing, carving, scraffito, and painting.
