I’ve been doing arty and crafty since childhood in Michigan. Moving to Denver in 1971, a bright display of beads in the old Folklore Center grabbed my attention. In a big way - an epiphany! Beads have been my main expression since then, added to sewing and embroidery, crochet, watercolors, writing and music. I am now compelled to create cool earrings from weird stuff: bottle caps, inner tubes, used necklaces, old jeans, collage bits -
If I`m not making, I`m not me.
My studio is the spare bedroom in my condo. I have a clean office table for laptop and printer. A gazillion beads in boxes live in open shelves next to the office table. There is a bead assembly workbench with my tools, findings and a handy sketchbook. I have a sewing station too. AND! I`m really excited > I`ve started making paper clay figures and vessels! They are rough, sturdy, free-form. This year, I will present my work at the Burd`s Nest Gallery.
Currently, I create unique "dystopian" jewelry. Components include bottle caps, smashed wire scribbles, hardware store fasteners, inner tubes, collage or note card scraps (laminated), tape measure, coins, alley treasures and other interesting thingies that cross my path. On the sidewalk.
I spend a lot of time sanding, cutting, painting and assembling - these earrings are tiny sculptures of found stuff.
