My work is a mixture of control and chaos. I can control the creation of the wood frames (for the most part), but the paint pouring is mostly out of my control. I have several favorite styles that I repeat over and over again, but the end result is always very different. The paint just blends in its own chaotic way, which almost always means something beautiful. A favorite part of each creation is finding the faces which always appear! Dragons and Octopuses are two of the most common!
Our oversized garage is my primary workplace, though I commonly take over other parts of the house if the temp isn`t right for paint or epoxy pouring. I have multiple workbenches that allow me to spread out my projects, and usually that means 5 or more individual works in process at any time. Seems like there`s always paint, glue or epoxy drying somewhere!
My work combines acrylic paint pouring (aka `liquid art`), wood working and epoxy. I do my paint pours on mostly canvas and reclaimed wood. My frames are crafted from our old redwood deck - I saved about 200 feet of the boards as well as 100 or so balusters. I clean them up then glue them together to make the larger pieces I need. It`s consistently amazing how beautiful the wood grain even after 25+ years in the harsh Colorado weather!
